Weldon Dewey Anderson

Weldon Dewey Anderson (W.D.) left his earthly abode and passed into eternity on July 19, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hassie and Artie Anderson; 2 sisters, Lucile Wheeler and Aileen Day; his 1st wife, Geneva Lee Anderson, and his 2nd wife, Jackie Beck Anderson.

He is survived by 2 daughters-Phyllis Spear (Gene) of Bowling Green, Kentucky and Mary Lou Sallee (Lowell) of Rogersville, Alabama. One sister-Janice Shultz, 2 grandsons-David Spear (Sara) and Daniel Sallee (Jennifer), 2 granddaughters-Jennifer Holt (Kelly) and Rebekah Penner (Aaron), 8 great grandchildren- Emily, Abby, Alex, Trenton, Austin, Jackson, Karson, and Savannah, and several nieces and nephews.

W.D. was born on December 8, 1927, in Big Reedy, Kentucky. He attended a 1-room schoolhouse named Macedonia School from the 1st grade - 8th grade. He continued his education at Caneyville High School, but only completed the 9th-11th grades. At 17, he quit school to enlist in the United States Navy during WWII. He served as a Medic in the Navy from 1945-1948.

He met Geneva Lee in 1948 and they married May 7, 1949. He enrolled in the Western Kentucky State Teachers College in 1949 and joined the ROTC program from 1951-1952, becoming a 2nd Lieutenant. In May 1952 he received a teaching degree.

Instead of teaching, Uncle Sam had other plans for W.D. Only 90 days after graduation, he was called to duty by the United States Army and served in Korea from 1952-December 1953. He was a Medical Administrative Officer.

After an honorable discharge, he was offered a teaching position at the Caneyville High School. He was also offered a position with the General Electric Credit Corporation as an auditor. So from 1953-1962 he worked as an auditor, promoted to Regional Credit Specialist, and then District Manager of the GE Credit Corporation.

In 1962, W.D. had the opportunity to settle down in his hometown of Grayson County, and he purchased Smith's Furniture & Appliance in Leitchfield, Kentucky. In 1963, the name was changed to W.D. Anderson's Furniture & Appliance. Leitchfield became home from 1962-1977.

In 1977, W.D. and Geneva sold their store and home in Leitchfield and moved to Bowling Green, Kentucky. His first wife, Geneva, passed away from breast cancer in 1994, having been married nearly 45 years. He then married his 2nd wife, Jackie Beck, who passed away from a stroke in 2017. W.D. enjoyed traveling all over the world and had the opportunity to visit some 54 countries in his lifetime. He remained in Bowling Green and resided at Charter Assisted Living from age 90 (2017) until his death.

The most important event in his life was when he obeyed his Lord and Savior and became a Christian in 1952. He was baptized into Christ by Ernest Nash at the Big Reedy Church of Christ.

A memorial service will be held at the Big Reedy church of Christ, 2368 Caneyville Rd (Highway 185), Roundhill, KY 42275 on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 9 am. Following the memorial service, W.D. will be laid to rest alongside his wife Geneva, at the Big Reedy Church of Christ cemetery.
