Ruby Joy Hayes, cherished matriarch of the Hayes family, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2025, at the age of 84, in Louisville, Kentucky. Born on July 24, 1941, to the late Carlie and Fannie Harper, Ruby embodied grace and resilience throughout her life.

A devoted homemaker, Ruby found joy in the warmth of her home and the laughter of her family. She was married to her late husband, Alton Hayes, with whom she shared countless memories and lovingly raised their children. Ruby's nurturing spirit extended beyond mere housekeeping; she was a cornerstone of support and love, creating a sanctuary for her family and friends alike. Ruby leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness through her two children, Jerry Hayes (Janet) and Patricia Barnes (Rick), her beloved brother, Donnie Harper, and her dear sister, Nita Gardner (James). She was a proud grandmother to six grandchildren and was blessed with several great-grandchildren, each of whom carried a piece of her heart.

In her gentle demeanor, Ruby taught us the importance of family, laughter, and compassion, making her an unforgettable presence in our lives. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, her parents, and her beloved son, Billy Hayes.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Caneyville Funeral Home, where they will reminisce, share stories, and celebrate the remarkable life of Ruby. Following the visitation, she will be laid to rest in the Caneyville Cemetery, a final resting place where her spirit can watch over her loved ones.
