Emmett Stevenson, a beloved member of the Caneyville community, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on May 2, 1945, in Leitchfield, he was the son of the late Del and Augusta Weedman Stevenson.
Emmett will be remembered not only for his dedication as a skilled carpenter but also for the warmth and love he brought into the lives of those around him.Emmett had a fulfilling career, spending many years contributing to his craft at Bobby Hayes Framing before retiring from Campbell Hausfeld. He was married to Marjorie Haynes, and together they welcomed a daughter, Anita Childress (Bobby), who cherished their bond. He is also survived by his devoted sister Sudie Mae Patterson (Jim), along with several beloved nieces and nephews, including Anna Patterson, Debbie Newton (Jerry), Freda Haynes, Nancy Garner (Jim), and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews who treasured their time with him. Besides his parents and his beloved wife, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, mother-in-law and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
In his younger days, Emmett found great joy in singing with Marjorie as they traveled to local churches and nursing homes, sharing their passion for music and uplifting spirits wherever they went. He took great pride in riding his John Deer tractor and tending to his farm. He found solace in his woodworking shop, enjoying the art of creation. When life's challenges arose and he could no longer work the farm or in his workshop, working jigsaw puzzles and watching classic episodes of "Gunsmoke" became his companions, reminding us of his gentle spirit and enduring love for simple pleasures.
The family will gather to celebrate Emmett's life with friends and loved ones on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and again on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon at Caneyville Funeral Home. A heartfelt funeral service will take place on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 12:00 noon, where we will honor Emmett's legacy and the profound impact he had on so many lives. Bros Jeremy Newton and Charles Lacefield will officiate. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at New Hope Cemetery, where family and friends can share memories and celebrate a life well-lived.
